Kolkata: December is here and the feel of Christmas is in the air. This was just the mood at The Astor Hotel on the evening of 10th December, as the hotel held their first ever Christmas tree lighting ceremony.The event was attended by eminent personalities like Mumtaz Sorcar, Kaushik and Rajat among others. Cut-outs of Santa, shimmery wreaths, buntings, baubles and pinecones and Christmas carols, made for a fun-filled evening.
The lobby and premises of The Astor was all dressed up in hues of red and white with loads of shimmer to brighten up the atmosphere.
The ceremony began at 5pm with guests and staff cheering as the tree was lit by General Manager of The Astor Hotel, Mr Amit Kobat.Post the Christmas tree lighting, it was time for carols as a group of singers regaled everyone with some foot-stamping festive songs. It was felt that this was a positive, joyous start to the eventful Christmas season.
Mr Kobat, said,“This tree lighting ceremony is an initiative that we are conducting for the first time. We have lit up this beautiful tree with lovely Christmas carols playing in the background, that reminds us to revel in the spirit of Christmas and hope for a brighter, safer and a successful New Year ahead."
A spectacular display of seasonal delights was organised for the guests, including Christmas Special Mocktail, Hot Chocolate with Marshmallows, Tea Cakes, Rum Balls, Mulled wine followed by Mini Pizza, Assorted Bruschetta, Dimsums, Stuffed Mushrooms with Asparagus and much more. There was a wish fulfilling note where everyone wrote out their wishes and hung on the tree. A staff member in Santa's costume distributed chocolates and goodies.
